Hyannis West Title I Newsletter
Hyannis West Elementary is a school-wide Title I school. That means we receive federal funds to provide extra help and instruction for students who need it most. We use our Title I funds to hire extra reading and math teachers and supplemental instructional materials. At Hyannis West, many students receive extra support in reading and mathematics in grades k-3. Some students work with a reading or math teacher in their classroom. Other students meet in small groups outside the classroom for instruction targeted to their specific needs.
It was wonderful to see so many families at our Family Night Open House! Thank you for taking the time to read and sign our Home School Compact (Spanish; Portuguese). The compact provides a great opportunity to talk with your child about what it means to be a ‘star’ student.
Through a generous grant from the Rotary Club of Hyannis and our Title I program, we are able to purchase books to give to students. Three times a year students select a new book to keep and members of the community visit classrooms to read books with students. We will have our first ‘Reading Palooza’ on Wednesday, November 15th. If you would like to volunteer to help students select a new book or read aloud in a classroom, please register to volunteer.
Read on to find out what your child is learning this month and how you can support learning at home.
